Overview: This book tells the true story of Wangari Maathai. While she was growing up in Kenya, Wangari was surrounded by nature & trees. But upon returning to Kenya, after studying in America, she finds that the beautiful trees in the forests are being cut down. In response, Wangari and many other women begin planting trees all over Kenya in hopes of helping the forest regrow.

Activity: This can be tied into a big science lesson about the environment. The teacher & students can brainstorm and discuss ways to “go green” & help save the earth.
