Publication Date: 2002
Genre: Fantasy
Audience: Gr. 6-8
Overview: This novel is set around the title character, Coraline, and her adventures in and around a new house that her family has just moved into. While she has her suspicions about the house split into four separate flats, she haphazardly discovers an alternate universe kind of setting through a secret passage. Through the troubles and worries of missing parents, not understanding her surroundings, and avoiding having buttons sewn in for her eyes, Coraline finds horror and adventure and you should read it to find out more!
Activity: This book would be an ideal story to use for incorporating multimedia ideas into the classroom. As it has been made into a movie, students could watch all or portions of the film and compare/contrast what they read and what they see. This will allow students to be exposed to different ways of storytelling and understanding different medium through which a story can be told.
