Title: Mirror

Author and Illustrator: Jeannie Baker

Publisher: http://www.candlewick.com/

Publication Date: 2010

Genre: Wordless Picture Book, Multicultural

Audience: All

Overview: Mirror is a unique story that tells two stories side by side in a wordless picture book. One family lives in Sydney, Australia and the other lives in Morocco, North Africa. You turn the pages simultaneously so you can compare and contrast the two different families, side by side. By doing this the author highlights the differences while also showing that is some ways, the families are very similar. The drawings are collages built of sand, earth, clay, paints, vegetation, paper, fabric, wool, tin and plastics. This creates vary amounts of depth, which also creates depth within the stories.

Activity: An activity you could of with this book could be compare and contrast the differences between the families of the students in your classroom. Also it would be a cool project to have pen-pals with students from a different country, so they can share their stories as well as hear new ones.
