Author: Grace Lin

Illustrator: Grace Lin

Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers http://www.randomhouse.com/kids/index.pperl

Publication Date: January 8, 2008

Genre: Multicultural, Realistic Fiction, Picture Book

Audience: Gr. PreK-2

Overview: Bringing In The New Year by Grace Lin tells the story of how a tradition Chinese American family rings in the New Year, complete with traditional activities, food, and a long dragon parade.

Activity: A great activity to do with this story is a “How does your family celebrate the new year” prompt. Students can write a paragraph or more about what they do with their family or friends to celebrate the New Year. They can talk about any special foods they eat or traditions they have. They can also draw a picture to go along with it.
