Rufus at Work

Title: Rufus at Work
Author: Tory and Norman Taber
Publisher: Walker & Company
www.walkeryoungreaders.com
Genre: Picture Book, Animals
Audience: K- 1st grade
Overview: This story is about a cat named Rufus and his owner Posy. Posy always asks herself "what good is he?" Rufus begins to think to himself every way in which he is indeed helpful. Rufus wakes up Posy in the mornings, keeps the sun off the carpet, and guards the bird bath while she is away. In the end Rufus thinks Posy does not understand him and his ways because she is a human.
Activity: A good activity after reading this book is to allow the students to summarize each page to help with their comprehension. They can do that by drawing what is happening instead of writing it down if the students are having trouble writing out their thoughts.
