Title: The Marvelous Land of Oz

Author: Lyman Frank Baum

Publisher: Reilly & Britton

Publication Date:

Genre: Fantasy

Audience: Gr. 6-8 (Young Adult)

Overview: This book is the second in the Oz series. It tells the story of Tip, a boy held captive by Mombi, and his creation, brought to life by Mombi, named Jack Pumpkinhead. After escaping from Mombi, they set their sights to the famed Emerald City where they are caught amidst a revolution by the women of the city. Tip and Jack then find themselves traveling alongside the Sawhorse, H.M Wogglebug T.E., the Scarecrow & the Tin Woodsman to find the true ruler of the Emerald City, Ozma.

Activity: Seeing as how this is the second book in a series, it would be a great writing prompt to have students write about if they like the usage of new characters in the Oz setting. Which set of characters did they enjoy more?
