Little Miss Spider At Sunny Patch School

Title: Little Miss Spider At Sunny Patch School Author: David Kirk Illustrator: David Kirk Publisher: Scholastic Press http://www.scholastic.com/titles/missspider/books.htm Publication Date: 2000 Genre: Picture Book Audience: Gr. PreK-2 Overview: This picture book is about a little spider named Little Miss Spider. She is very excited about her first day at Sunny Patch School where she will get to learn all of the different things that she and all the other bugs should know. However, she becomes very discouraged when she sees the other bugs exploring their talents that she is not able to do. To her surprise and after saving a fellow classmate, she finds that indeed she has one of the best talents and gifts one can have, kindness. Activity: I think that this is a great picture books for students. The book has an encouraging and pleasant message, very vibrant pictures, and focuses on rhyming all throughout. One possible activity that could be done with this books is first, reading the book aloud to students. Next, the students would complete a fun and similar rhyming activity. Students could draw a big picture that illustrates their first day of school, and write a few rhyming sentences that explains their picture. Reviewer's Name: Amanda Scocco
