Title: Galileo: The Genius Who Faced the Inquisition
Author: Philip Steele

Illustrator: Picture Manager - Veneta Bullen

Publisher: National Geographic Society

Publication Date: 2005

Genre: Nonfiction, History, Biography

Audience: Gr. 3-5

Overview: This book is about the life of Galileo Galilei in the 16th Century Italy. This book is broken up into three parts including his childhood, his life as a student and teacher, his inquisition, and his finals years. This book discusses the discoveries that changed the way the universe is viewed, and the famous discovery that the Earth was not the center of the universe, and the Earth moved around the sun.

Activity: I would use this book in a lesson where the class is introduced to Galileo, particularly during a science lesson. After learning about Galileo's life and his discoveries, the students could work in small groups to create a visual aid and presentation that discusses one aspect that they found interesting about Galileo's life. They could then relate it back to what they have been learning in science.
