Publication Date: 2003
Genre: Picture Book & Adventure Book
Audience: Gr 1-5
Overview: Skippyjon Jones is a siamese cat who constantly tries to be some animal he is not. One day when his mom makes him stay in his room, his imagination goes wild and takes him on a mexican adventure where he becomes a heroic chihuahua and helps his friends, Los Chimichangos. This is the first book in a series about other adventures of Skippyjon Jones.
Activity: Two activities could go along with this book. There is a lot of Spanish vocabulary used and could be an introduction to a Spanish lesson. It could also be a prompt for a good writing activity. Have the students imagine themselves as something other than a person, whether it's an animal or superhero etc. Then they could write a story explaining their adventure.
