Overview: Kim has just moved to a new town and is going to a new school. She is afraid that she is not going to make any friends and that no one will like her so she creates a little lie. She tells everyone that her real name is Katherine Isabella Marguerite and she is a princess. As the days go by Kim makes up a new lie about herself as a princess. Kim's classmates wait on her hand and foot and treat her like a real princess. When Kim's grandmother comes to visit, Kim finds herself in trouble. She has told her friends that her grandmother was a queen. When her class finds out that she is not a princess and her grandmother is not a queen, everyone is appalled and mad at Kim, except for one boy. The one boy that never acknowledged Kim as a princess, he had a lie of his own.
Activity: This book would be a good lesson for teaching about lies. It would help to explain to young children when you create and spread the littlest lie. It just grows and grows and there's no way out. The class could do role play and act out Kim's situation. Put themselves in Kim's shoes to try and end the story differently.
